K-State to Hold Friday Pep Rally in Kansas City

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Athletics and the K-State Alumni Association will hold a special pre-game pep rally Friday in Kansas City prior to the Wildcats’ NCAA Second Round basketball matchup, department officials announced today.

The pep rally will be held at 12:15 p.m. in Kansas City’s Power and Light District prior to the Cats’ 2:10 p.m. game in the Sprint Center. Among the highlights for the pep rally include the K-State band and cheerleaders, comments from representatives of both the athletics department and alumni association as well as free t-shirt giveaways.

Also, McFadden's in the Power and Light District will serve as the official K-State headquarters this weekend. Alumni Association and Athletic Department representatives will be in attendance.

Big 12 champion and No. 12/14 Kansas State (27-7, 14-4 Big 12) earned its 27th NCAA Tournament appearance, including its fifth in the last six seasons, by receiving an at-large bid to the tournament. It is the school’s record seventh consecutive postseason appearance (5 NCAAs and 2 NITs) and just the second time in history that it has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in four straight seasons (also done from 1986-90).

The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the West Regional and will play the winner of the 13-seed play-in game between Boise State (21-10) and La Salle (21-9).

K-State will be playing in an NCAA Tournament game in Kansas City for the ninth time in its history, which includes Final Four appearances in 1948, 1951 and 1964. It will be the first NCAA Tournament game in the city since playing in the Final Four against UCLA and Michigan at Municipal Auditorium on March 20-21, 1964.
