TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Authorities closed part of Wanamaker Road at 35th Street Tuesday following a gas line break.
13 News crews, held back from the scene around 12:30 Tuesday could hear a loud hissing, the sound of the gas leaking.
Initial reports suggested that a gas line had been hit by a construction crew in the area, although the type of construction happening at the time of the apparent accident wasn't immediately released.
A 13 News crew on the scene Tuesday was told a 2 inch line was broken . Wind in the area was reportedly blowing leaked gas in a way that made the situation less dangerous.
Steps were being taken to shut the gas line off, and stop the leak.
Officials from the City of Topeka said Wanamaker was reopened to traffic Tuesday around 4:45 p.m.
