July 8th, 2014. Four people were killed when four homes were destroyed in Madison County, New York, just east Syracuse, during a severe storm on Tuesday.
Sixty people have been involved in a search effort, the sheriff said. Crews plan to continue searching Wednesday.
The homes were located on Goff Road in the Smithfield area. The storm swept through the area around 7:14 p.m.
Several other homes were damaged.
The area is located about 12 miles northeast of Cazenovia.
The cause of death was likely the collapse of the homes and/or structure(s) that the persons were in, however it is not believed that a tornado was responsible. A Severe Thunderstorm could be the culprit with extremely severe winds and heavy rain and lightning. No more details at this point.
