Smell Of Gas Forces Morning Evacuation of Dillons Store

TOPEKA Kan. (WIBW) -- Shawnee County Dispatch told 13 news that the Topeka Fire Department was called to the Dillon's at S.W. 29th & California around 6:15 a.m after receiving a report of a strong gas smell.

A store manager ordered the the evacuation of patrons and employees as fire fighters arrived around 6:20.
Fire crews shutoff gas to the building and called in Kansas Gas Service to investigate.

No injuries were reported. The store closed for 45 minutes while members of the fire department and gas service investigated the leak.
The store was back open as of 8:00 a.m. Friday.
