UNION, Mo. (AP) _ A second mental evaluation will be performed on a woman accused of kidnapping a baby and attacking the child's mother.
A Franklin County judge granted the defense request yesterday. Meanwhile, Shannon Torrez remains jailed in the abduction of Abby Woods and the knife attack on Abby's mother. The crime happened in September.
Torrez has already undergone a court-ordered evaluation. Attorney John Rogers sought a second evaluation after reviewing the findings of the first one.
Authorities say Torrez passed off Abby as her own child for five days as police frantically searched for the baby. She was arrested after her sister-in-law became suspicious.
Abby was unharmed. A hearing is August 14th on a defense motion for a change of venue.
