ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) _ West Hansen and Richard Steppe are the
winners of this year's Missouri 340.
The paddlers finished the 340-mile trip down the Missouri River early this morning in St. Charles with a time of 44 hours, 27 minutes. Hansen won last year as a solo competitor, but it took him nine hours longer.
A race official who led the canoes and kayaks down the river in a power boat said most of the competitors went the entire race without sleep.
Late last night about 65 boats were still in the race. The race started Tuesday morning from Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
