TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A 50-year old man lost his life in a head-on collision on K4 early Monday.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says it happened just before 5:30 am in the 4400 block of NE K4 Highway.

The Sheriff's Office says 20-year old Aaron Meade of Meriden was driving a pickup north on K4. It's believed he crossed the center line for an unknown reason, and collided head-on with a southbound passenger car driven by 50-year old Neil Highsmith.

Highsmith was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say he lived in Shawnee County. Meade was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing. The Kansas Highway Patrol is assisting.
