TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A 50-year old man lost his life in a head-on collision on K4 early Monday.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says it happened just before 5:30 am in the 4400 block of NE K4 Highway.
The Sheriff's Office says 20-year old Aaron Meade of Meriden was driving a pickup north on K4. It's believed he crossed the center line for an unknown reason, and collided head-on with a southbound passenger car driven by 50-year old Neil Highsmith.
Highsmith was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say he lived in Shawnee County. Meade was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing. The Kansas Highway Patrol is assisting.
Crews closed K-4 highway between NE 39th and NE 46th streets early Monday as they worked the scene. The highway reopened just before 11:30 am.
