TOPEKA, Kan. -- Memorial Day is a time to honor the men and women, past and present, who have held steadfast in their duty to protect and serve our country. In appreciation of their service, Penwell-Gabel will display a photographic Wall of Tribute this Memorial Day weekend at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum at SW 6th Avenue and Gage Boulevard.
At 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28, the cemetery will host a Memorial Day ceremony that will include a ride through the grounds by the American Legion Riders, a wreathlaying ceremony and remarks by Senator Pat Roberts and Colonel John Muther.
The community is encouraged to join in the recognition by submitting their photos of military or civic heroes to the cemetery office at 6th Avenue and Gage during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by emailing them to WallOfTribute@PenwellGabel.com. This is the sixth year for the Wall of Tribute.
“This is an inspiring way for anyone to honor his or her own special heroes, not just military,” said Ren Newcomer, owner of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Homes, Crematories and Cemeteries. “We really want to encourage everyone to submit a photo of each friend or
loved one who has served, or is now serving, our country in the military or civil service.”
Penwell-Gabel is a family-owned company with funeral homes, crematories and cemeteries throughout Kansas. Owners Ren and Theresa Newcomer continue a four-generation Tradition of Caring that has provided uncompromising personal service and highest-quality merchandise at a moderate price since 1893.
