TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topekans dug deep into their history and honored civil war veterans at the Topeka Cemetery.
The Kansas National Guard and the Sons of Union Veterans set hundreds of flags throughout the Grand Army of the Republic section of the cemetery.
Area scouts and Junior ROTC units presented colors as dozens paid homage to the historic veterans, who made Topeka their home after the Civil War.
District 6 Topeka City Councilman Chad Manspeaker provided a brief speech to begin the memorial ceremonies at the Topeka Cemetery.
