FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) _ Pakistan's army chief of staff, a
key figure in the war in Afghanistan, is being honored at the U.S.
Army Command and General Staff College.

Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, a 1985 graduate of the college, will be inducted Thursday into its international hall of fame. The honor is reserved for international graduates who achieve the highest position in their nation's military.

Kayani took over the Pakistan army more than a year ago from President Pervez Musharraf, who was pressured to resign.

The general is in the United States this week. He has been meeting with officials about the ongoing war in Afghanistan and Pakistan's role in fighting the Taliban and al-Qaida.
