TOPEKA, Kan. - A soldier and airman from the Kansas National Guard were among six military personnel who were honored by the Topeka Military Relations Committee during the Topeka City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Sgt. 1st Class Jessica E. Cox, Kansas Army National Guard, and Lt. Col. William F. Hefner, Kansas Air National Guard were selected by their respective military branches to receive the Military Person of the Year Award from the Topeka Military Relations Committee. The committee was formed in 2003 by a group of Topeka businessmen to promote the military within the community.
Cox is a member of Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas, serving as chief of the Pay and Exam Branch in the Comptroller Division of the United States Property and Fiscal Office, Topeka. Hefner is the optometrist for the Medical Group of the 190th Air Refueling Wing in Topeka.
Each honoree received a plaque that includes a likeness of the statue atop the Kansas Statehouse dome.
