Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is joining the calls against moving any Guantanamo Bay detainees to Kansas.

President Barack Obama has ordered the terrorist detention center on Guantanamo Bay to be shut down.

Sebelius says she supports the decision, but she sent a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates Wednesday, outlining eight reasons why Fort Leavenworth would be a bad place to house the detainees once GTMO is closed. The list includes structural and transportation issues as well as proximity to school children and military leaders.

"The unique requirements associated with housing GTMO detainees and some physical limitations at Fort Leavenworth make Leavenworth an undesirable location for the detainees," Sebelius wrote in the letter. "In addition, their presence would greatly disrupt the largely educational mission of the Army’s intellectual school house."

Republican senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins also have objected to moving the detainees to Leavenworth.
