CIMARRON, Kan. (AP) _ World War II veterans in Gray County are
recording their experiences as part of an oral history project.

Already the memories of 38 soldiers are on file.

The effort to collect the stories is led by 80-year-old Wiley McFarland, a Gray County commissioner for nearly 45 years. The project is being housed in the Gray County Courthouse's Veterans Memorial Resource Center.

A committee of volunteers also went to all county cemeteries to scour tombstones and compile a list of veterans. Notebooks of all the names, sorted by era, are in the room.

Transcripts of the stories can also be read online.
