FORT RILEY, Kan. – The Department of Defense released orders for the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, to deploy to Iraq in early October.
The deployment is scheduled to last 12 months. Families of the “Dagger” Brigade were notified prior to the DoD announcement that their Soldiers would deploy.
Family members will have the chance to receive more detailed information during planned pre-deployment briefings.
While the more than 3,900 Soldiers are deployed, families will have the full support of Fort Riley and the 1st Inf. Div. through the Fort Riley Soldier and Family Readiness Center. The 2nd HBCT also will stand up a Rear Detachment Command to oversee all unit support functions on Fort Riley.
The “Dagger” Brigade recently returned from the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., where the unit was certified by the Department of the Army as mission ready.
