Soldiers Welcomed Home

FORT RILEY, Kan.-Approximately 60 Soldiers of the 2nd Heavy Truck Platoon, 2nd Transportation Company returned from Kuwait Wednesday and were reunited with their families in a ceremony at 8:30 p.m. August 6.

The Soldiers spent the last 15 months conducting convoy and re-supply
operations from Kuwait into Iraq. The unit ran 83 missions totaling
more than 860,000 miles while transporting 3,000 pieces of equipment to war fighters throughout the Operation Iraqi Freedom area of
responsibility.

The platoon encountered numerous attacks along the roadways in Iraq, including five incidents with small arms fire and 10 incidents with improvised explosive devices.

One Soldier received the Purple Heart for combat related injuries. He
later returned to duty.
