Approximately 60 Fort Riley soldiers are expected to be reunited with their families Wednesday night.
The post plans an 8:30 pm ceremony to mark the return of the 2nd Heavy Truck Platoon, 2nd Transportation Company. The group has spent the past 15 months in Kuwait.
Fort Riley says the soldiers ran 83 missions totaling more than 860,000 miles during their deployment. Their job was to conduct convoy and resupply operations from Kuwait into Iraq.
The unit came under attack several times, including five encounters and small arms fire and ten incidents with improvised explosive devices. One soldier received a Purple Heart for combat-related injuries. He was able to return to duty later.
