FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) _ Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno, the next chief military officer in Iraq, will address soldiers, families and veterans at a ceremony honoring the 1st Infantry Division.
Odierno was confirmed July 10 by the Senate to replace Gen. David Petraeus. Odierno, as Petraeus' deputy commander in Iraq, is credited with successfully managing a new strategy for restoring order.
Odierno will receive his fourth star and report directly to Petraeus, who becomes head of the U.S. Central Command, which includes Iraq and Afghanistan.
Thursday's event is the dedication of the 1st Division's Victory Park, honoring veterans and soldiers who have fought and died in wars dating to World War I.
