Governor Kathleen Sebelius wants to turn hope into reality for nearly 500 Kansas National Guard soldiers that are trying to spend the holidays with their families before going to Iraq.

"We are asking Kansas to help ensure these soldiers spend their time Christmas holiday with loved ones by donating funds for their travel expenses home from training in Texas," says Governor Kathleen Sebelius.

The Department of Defense does not cover the cost for soldiers to visit their families while they are on leave....$50,000 is needed for all to return home for a couple of weeks.

Donations to pay for travel expenses to bring the Kansas soldiers home should be sent to the Kansas National Guard Foundation, 2800 SW Topeka Blvd.

Governor Kathleen Sebelius says,"our soldiers and their families sacrifice so much and we want to make sure we do everything we can for them to have one more opportunity for a holiday with family before deploying."
