MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The Sunset Zoo treated Manhattan residents to a special event Saturday evening.
A sold out crowd of 400 was on hand for the 8th annual Wine in the Wild event to benefit the zoo. The night featured wine personally selected by Nespor's Wine & Spirits, food by Manhattan's Hy-Vee, and live music from Muzizi.
"We sold out this morning on this year’s event and so I think that speaks for itself," said Zoo Director Scott Shoemaker. "The tickets are selling fast when we open this event up and so it’s just a great event like I said and the community obviously appreciates it. Comments have been overwhelmingly, you know, appreciative and they really enjoy it. I think it’s just a different way to see the zoo."
The night capped off with a sneak peak of phase two at the zoo’s new Gibbon’s exhibit. The new addition restores a historic portion of the zoo with an outdoor space that allows the Gibbon’s to show off their acrobatic nature.
A ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, opening the exhibit to the public.
