KU Awards 3 Wounded Warrior Scholarships


LAWRENCE, Kan -(WIBW) KU has announced that three students have received "Wounded Warrior Scholarships" for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Wounded Warrior program helps provide financial support for injured veterans and family members for education costs.

The three scholars are:

-Alex Cataudella of Lawrence a Senior at Free State High School, who is the surviving daughter of the Late Sean Cataudella, a Sgt who died while serving in Iraq.

-Carol Meza of Pittsburg who joined the Army National Guard and survived a roadside IED while deployed to Iraq in 2010.

-Timothy Hornik of Chicago, a retired U.S. Army Captain. Hornik was shot and blinded in 2004 while serving in Iraq. Horik has already obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work from KU in 2010 and plans to pursue a PHD in Theraputic Sciences during the Fall semester of 2014.

The scholarships which can be used for tuition, fees, books and living expenses up to $10,000 per school year and are renewable for up to 4 years.
