Fort Riley Soldiers Donate Blood

Soldiers at Fort Riley are giving back to the community in new way this week during the American Red Cross’ "Red, White and You" blood drive.

According to the American Red Cross website, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, and more than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day. Over the course of the three-day event the Red Cross hopes to reach its goal of 750 pints.

"We have regular blood drives here, but everyone is so supportive and these guys come out and just help us out all the time," said Communications Program Manager Cari Merrill. "We always have a need; the need is constant and they always step up to the plate and help us. We do have a goal of one hundred and twenty five each day, so we really still need people to come out and donate if they can."

The blood drive will continue tomorrow and Wednesday on post at Long Fitness Center.

Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is encouraged. Donors can pre-register by calling 1-800-733-2767.
