Union Pacific Investing $120 Million Into Kansas Rail Ways

Posted: 05/12/2015 - Union Pacific is investing $120 million to improve railroad infrastructure in Kansas. Union Pacific says that the capital expenditure is part of an ongoing investment strategy. From 2010 to 2014 more than $483 million has been put into strengthening Kansas’ transportation infrastructure. Of the $120 million being invested in 2015, $110 million will be used to maintain railroad track. $7.5 million will be used to maintain or replace state bridges. $2.2 million will be used to enhance signal systems. Key projects planned for the year include $20.2 million investment for 25 miles of rail line between Whiteside and Pratt. $12.6 million for rail repairs between Waldeck and near McPherson. And $7.7 million will be allotted for rail road ties and rock ballast between Oakley and Sharon Springs. Union Pacific plans to spend $4.2 billion across their network this year.
