Zoobilee Draws Regulars and First-Timers

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Zoo's annual fundraiser themed "Party with the Penguins had plenty of fun for everyone.

The University of Kansas' African Drum Ensemble added an upbeat touch to this year's zoobilee, and Wicked Liars and Vince DeLaughder provided live entertainment.
Guests enjoyed activities with the animals, saw Sunda play soccer and participated in a silent auction.

Both first time Zoobilee attendees and those who have attended every single one say it was a beautiful evening.

There's a lot of exciting things going on, a lot of feedings, a lot of activities with the animals," Kent Whisler said. He and his wife were zoo regulars, but attended the Zoobilee fundraiser for the first time. It was their date night, they said.

Maggie Kelley, said she's attended every Zoobilee event so far and enjoys the outdoor format. "We used to have it in the education building," she said. "And then they decided to this station kind of thing," she said, referring to the different vendor booth set up as grazing stations and watering holes. "It's so much fun to walk around and see all the different animals and see all the vendors," she said.
