TOPEKA – The YWCA Topeka will kick off its 125th year in Topeka at the 125th Birthday Celebration at Women’s Night Out Wednesday, November 7th, at 5:30 pm at the Capitol Plaza Hotel’s Sunflower Ballroom. The 14th Annual YWCA "Women’s Night Out" will not only honor the YW’s 125th birthday, but it will also showcase a hilarious video written, directed and performed by Shannon Reilly, Topeka Civic Theatre, and his troupe of actors that pays homage to the many diverse women throughout the YWCA’s history in Topeka.
This comedy/fundraiser benefits YWCA programs, working to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Topeka’s finest restaurants and caterers will showcase their culinary skills with an eclectic selection of treats for guests. Townsite Café/Peach Tree Catering, Qdoba, Hazel Hill Chocolate, Cold Stone Creamery, PT’s, Pizagel’s Pizza & Bakery, Simply Sarah’s Catering, Blind Tiger and Cakes by Dino are just a few of catering participants.
There will be several door-prizes awarded, including a spectacular grand prize drawing for a 3-night San Diego Cruise that includes airfare and accommodations. Other prizes include: restaurant gift cards and entertainment gift cards, as well as several single prizes from local businesses and participating vendors. Total value of prizes is over $5,000.

All proceeds from Women’s Night Out support YWCA programs including; before and after school care; sexual and domestic violence for victims, abusers, and youth; Girls on the Run; creating a more diverse community in Topeka; and working to increase the number of women, minorities and disadvantaged persons employed in northeast Kansas.
The public is also invited to attend the YWCA Topeka’s 125th Birthday Open House on November 19th at 11:30 am at the YWCA Topeka, 225 SW 12th Street. The Open House will be open throughout the afternoon until 6 pm. As a thank you to the Topeka Community for 125 years of courage, 125 past and present volunteers will sing “Happy Birthday” at 11:45 and a soup lunch and cake will be served immediately following.
