"Workaholic" Is Winning Word In County Spelling Bee

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Do you know how to spell "workaholic"?
Well, that was the word that won the county spelling bee at Whitson Elementary, Saturday afternoon.

Krystal Cheung went through 21 rounds and spelled the winning word correctly. She is a 8th grader from Washburn Rural Middle School.

62 students competed today in the 60th annual Shawnee County spelling bee.

Cheung, the county champion and runner up, Lillian Wen who won with the word 'formative,' have the right to represent Shawnee County at the Topeka Capitol Journal's Regionals at Topeka West High School on March 2.

The regional spelling bee winner will advance to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C in May 27-31.
