TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Nearly 300 area 7th graders were on hand for Women in Science Day at Washburn University.
Students from 10 schools were on hand for the event aimed at boosting young women's interest in science.
Demonstrations showcased the ways science can be used in every day activities. One even showed how ice cream is made!
Studies indicate that girls perform as well as boys in math and science through elementary school, but as they grow up they become less interested.
