Woman Dies From Smoke Inhalation In House Fire

ATCHISON, Kan. (WIBW)--Officials have discovered the cause of death for a woman who was found dead inside her home in Atchison early Thursday morning.

The coroner's report says that 75-year-old Sharon Ferris died of smoke inhalation according to KNZA Radio.

Her home caught fire and crews were at the scene Thursday after witnesses saw smoke coming from the top floor.

Crews detained the fire in an upstairs bedroom and discovered Ferris. A smoke detector was in the house, but it was not connected properly.

The Kansas Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
