TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- If you can't get through to the Shawnee County Treasurer's Office- you're not alone.
Since the Kansas Department of Revenue launched its new motor vehicle software system in May, residents say either no one answers, or they're transferred to a filled voicemail box.
Treasurer Larry Wilson told Shawnee County Commissioners Thursday that the employees in his office who answer phones are not getting yes or no questions. Usually, the inquiries require his staff to research answers, which takes more time.
Wilson said he has three people answering thousands of calls, but he's not looking to hire more help right now..
"The process I am looking at is that the system becomes functional without errors and until that happens i don't think it would be feasible for us to go hire more people," Wilson said.
According to Wilson, his office is doing what it can to control the overloaded phone system.
