Wife Of Topeka Media Leader Passes Away At 86

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The wife of a leader in Topeka media, and Governor Sam Brownback's mother-in law, passed away last night.

Ruth Stauffer died at home at the age of 86. She had Parkinson's for several years.

Ruth married John Stauffer in 1950 in Emporia. He was President of Stauffer Communications, that owned many Topeka media companies including WIBW-TV until 1995.

The couple established the Washburn Women's Alliance, and Ruth was active with organizations including Mulvane Art Museum, TPAC and the United Way.

Ruth leaves behind John and their three children.

Visitation is from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Penwell-Gabel's Midtown Chapel. A memorial service is 10:00 a.m Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.
