Widow Files Lawsuit Over Husband's Death At Racetrack

(WIBW) - The widow of a popular race car driver killed at Thunderhill Speedway has filed a civil suit in Jackson County District Court.

49-year-old Steven Bowers died in the final lap of a July 2009 race at the Mayetta track. The Topeka Capital Journal reported after the accident that Bowers' son and other observers questioned safety standards and what they said were inexperienced fire crews responding to the accident.

WIBW-TV received a subpoena to provide video and news scripts for a lawsuit Vicky Bowers filed against B&H Motors, doing business as Thunderhill Speedway, and Michael Henry.

The subpoena was submitted by Thunderhill's Kansas City attorneys.
