WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Wichita police say officers and detectives
will be at Towne East Mall to show shoppers common mistakes they
make during the holiday season.
Lt. Mike Hennessy says officers will be walking around the
mall's parking lot Tuesday morning to find vehicles with items
inside that thieves might want to steal.
He says the goal is to educate shoppers so they don't become
victims. It's the fifth year the department has addressed thefts
around the holidays.
Hennessy says precautions like keeping valuables out of sight
and locking car doors can reduce shoppers' chances of being
targeted by thieves.
