WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) — A mother and her boyfriend have been formally charged with the murder of a young girl.
Monday afternoon, 24-year-old Monica Krueger and 23-year-old were charged with first degree murder in the death of 3-year-old Emma Krueger.
The little girl wasn't breathing when she was rushed to a Wichita hospital a week ago. She was suffering from head injuries and other bruising, and died two days later.
The child's mother and her boyfriend were arrested for child abuse soon after Emma was brought to the hospital. They were re-booked for first-degree murder after her death.
Investigators believe the abuse had been going on for about a month.
Bond had originally been set at $100,000 for each, but was raised today to $150,000. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 24.
The judge also ordered that Krueger have no contact with any witnesses in the case.
