A student who Washburn Rural High School in 2008 never forgot about one special teacher and, four years later, nominated her for a special honor.

Washburn Rural HS teacher and debate coach Cynthia Burgett gets award for being an inspiriational teacher.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A student who Washburn Rural High School in 2008 never forgot about one special teacher and, four years later, nominated her for a special honor.

Cynthia Burgett, a teacher and debate coach at Washburn Rural, is getting an award for being an inspirational teacher.

The honor came from the University of Tulsa with a cash prize of $2,000 for herself and $1,000 for the debate team.

Tulsa student and Burgett's former student Joe Schroeder said in his nomination letter there isn't anyone quite like Ms. Cynthia Burgett.
