TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Washburn University Foundation has broken a fundraising record.

The foundation's fiscal year ended on June 30th with a record $16.5 million in total giving.

The money will be put towards current and future support for scholarships, programs, and faculty development opportunities to improve educational experiences.

Washburn University President Jerry Farley says there's a reason people continue to give back to the university.

"They believe in what the university is doing. They believe that the university is truly transforming students lives, just the way they were transformed if they were an alumni on this campus when they were here with us," said Farley. "And they want to give back because they believe that they can do something that really matters and help that next generation of students."

Donors also gave $4.7 million in future commitments by way of revocable estate gifts.
