TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two recycled cars were given away to deserving people Monday night.

Mikayley Morrison was awarded a Rord Focus and a young mother with three children whose identity is not being revealed for safety reasons received a Mazda MPV as part of Washburn Tech's Recycled Rides Program.

The program partners with auto students and instructors, allowing them to refurbish two vehicles that are then given away to individuals or families in need.

Local businesses and individuals also pitch in, donating parts and supplies to get the cars up and running.

Washburn Tech was the first school in the nation to participate in the Recycled Rides program. To date, they've given away seven refurbished vehicles.
