TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A new facility aims to meet the growing demand for skilled workers.
Washburn Tech cut the ribbon Tuesday on its new advanced systems technology training center at the Topeka Regional Airport and Business Center, formerly Forbes Field.
The facility will allow the school to bring more students into its programs for repairing and maintaining production machinery and equipment.
Washburn President Jerry Farley says the skills needed by today's work force are far above what was required just a decade ago. He says being able to train more people will help Topeka in attracting new businesses.
A Department of Labor grant funded the $19.6 million expansion.
The public is invited to view it during an open house from noon to 2 pm Saturday, Nov. 17.
