TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - "Yes" to a new KBI lab and a tuition hike, but "no" to guns.
Those votes Wednesday from Washburn University's Board of Regents.
University spokesperson Dena Anson tells 13 News the regents okayed a 5.33 percent tuition hike for fall. They also gave the go-ahead to launch construction of a new forensics lab for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. State lawmakers approved initial funding for it in the state's budget.
Anson says regents also voted to apply for a four-year exemption to the state's new concealed carry law. The law, which takes effect July 1, allows licensed carriers to bring weapons into public buildings that do not have adequate security.
