TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Young offenders who've been through the courts learned lessons on a different court.
Coach Bob Chipman and members of the Washburn University men's basketball team visited the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex Monday. The visit was arranged by Steve Bonner, a former Washburn player who now works with the young offenders at the facility.
While the visit was a fun break for the residents, Coach Chipman says it provides a serious lesson for his players, too. He says they see what happens with young people who make mistakes that perhaps they didn't initially intend. He says his players likely left feeling better about their own life situations.
The residents got a little court time, brushing up on their skills with help from the players.
