TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two universities are putting their rivalry to use to help others.
Washburn University student government leaders and Washburn President Jerry Farley held a news conference Wednesday to kick off their annual "Can Emporia" food drive. The effort pits Washburn against Emporia State University to see who can collect the most canned goods for area food pantries.
This is the seventh year for the event. Each school has collected more than 30,000 cans in past years. The series is tied at three wins each.
The student government president of the losing school will receive a pie in the face at halftime of the Washburn-Emporia State football game on November 16th.
