TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- It's going to be a very Merry Christamas for many tots around the area - thanks to a big turnout for Washburn University's Toys for Tots campaign.
On Monday, the university announced it blew away its fundraising goals, collecting 873 toys and raising nearly $1,300 to help local children.
The toy drive featured new ideas like Washburn Tech's Toy Build Day on December 7. Local Boy Scouts, students, and other volunteers came out and set up assembly lines to build 500 wooden drums and paint step stools made by Washburn Tech students.
And back for it's second year was a holiday bazaar hosted by the Washburn Student Social Work Association and the Washburn Graduate Student Social Work Association. It raised $500 for the Toys for Tots.
