TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A college student is taking steps to help children.
Barrett Keene is working with the Global Orphan Project to raise awareness of the world's orphaned and abandoned children. His walk from Miami to San Francisco took them south of Topeka Monday. He was joined on the stretch by fellow student Michael Sugihara.
The students at New York's Cornell University have a tangible goal. Keene says some children in countries like Uganda cannot go to school because they do not have a uniform to wear. He says simply contributing to buy uniforms for the children can change their life.
So far, the walk has raised enough to purchase 1200 school uniforms for children. People can led their support to their mission by visiting www.gowalkamerica.org.
Keene says people also can do their own 3500 mile challenge by signing up at www.legacychamp.com.
