TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - WIBW-TV Employees recounted what happened the day a man broke into the tv station and assaulted them.
Ray Miles is on trial for seven counts in the May 23, 2012 incident, including aggravated battery.
A jury was seated Monday. On Tuesday, jurors viewed surveillance video, showing Miles using a lamp to break through a glass door then move down a hallway.
Meteorologist and business office staffer Rob Peppers testified about Miles initially coming to the lobby to request the news staff do a story. Miles left, and, when he returned, Peppers said Miles appeared visibly agitated and he and receptionist Linda Janes would not allow him into the building. That's when Miles picked up the lamp and broke through the window.
13 News Director Jon Janes testified he'd spoken earlier with Miles and, when he met him in the hallway leading to the newsroom after hearing the crash, Miles pushed him into a wall.
Sales manager Roger Brokke was among coworkers who then intervened. Brokke testified Miles punched him and, once he and coworkers wrestled Miles to the ground, Miles bit him in the back, before Brokke felt himself being stabbed.
Testimony is expected to last two more days.
