ATCHISON,, Kan. (CBS/KCTV5)-- Wednesday marked the start of demolition work on the U.S. 59 Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge, which was delayed from Monday because the Missouri River had risen from recent heavy rain and snow in northern states.

The department says dates for the second and third blasts are under discussion. The bridge spans the Missouri River between Atchison and Winthrop, Mo.
