TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Drums, bagpipes, a bugle and voices raised in song all honored veterans on Washburn University's campus Friday.
The school hosted its 24th annual Veterans Day Ceremony. A drum tribute from the Standing Bear Intertribal Brotherhood was among highlights of this ceremony. It also featured music from the Capital City Barbership Chorus, Pipe Sgt. Steve Denny and taps played by Jay Stevenson. Bells also tolled in memory of those who gave their lives serving our country.
Kansas Adjutant General Lee Tafanelli said it was nice to see so many young people attending the ceremony. He says it means they recognize the freedoms they enjoy are possible through the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans.
