TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The passenger of a maroon minivan was left hanging out a side door while the man behind the wheel continued to drive, dragging the victim's face along the ground.
Topeka police were called just after 2 a.m. Monday to the scene at 29th Street and Gage Boulevard.
The driver in a car behind the van, Mike Whitmarsh, said he saw the person falling out of the van near Felker Park. He said the person was drug to 29th and Gage before the van stopped and the witness was able to help the man get untangled from the van door.
Whitmarsh said he had honked to get the van driver's attention, but he didn't seem to notice him. After the victim finally got out of the van, Whitmarsh said the driver took off.
Police say the victim had severe scrapes and was intoxicated. They say he wasn't cooperating with officers to identify the driver of the van.
A hat and beer were seen lying in the middle of the road.
Authorities shut down part of Gage for about 30 minutes while they investigated and cleared the scene.
