"Unified Endeavor" Underway At Fort Riley

FORT RILEY, Kan. – The largest command post exercise to take place on Fort Riley since the return of the 1st Infantry Division from Germany in 2006 is scheduled to start Monday.

Unified Endeavor is a command post exercise that prepares the 1st Inf. Div. headquarters to lead a regional command in Afghanistan. The exercise includes more than 2,000 military and civilian personnel from all services and from five different nations, signifying the joint, multi-national nature of the mission in Afghanistan. Units in Germany, Fort Knox, Ky., and Suffolk, Va., will also participate in the exercise.

Due to the large number of participants, visitors to Fort Riley should expect longer wait times at gates and other post facilities.
Midway through the exercise, various leaders involved in the training event will take part in a media roundtable. Reporters will receive a tour of the division headquarters’ joint operations center followed by a question and answer session.

In addition to the division headquarters, Fort Riley’s 1st Sustainment Brigade and 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will also take part in the exercise. All three units are expected to deploy in 2012.
