USD 501 Budget To Increase From Previous Year

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- Topeka Public Schools could see an inflation in cash flow without negatively affecting area residents property taxes.

USD 501 Communications Director Ron Harbaugh confirmed that a recently proposed budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year shows an increase from $238.4 million in 2013-2014 to $255.3 million for the coming school year.

The increase is due to a projected increase in the number of students within the school district.

A projected increase in students needing additional education services and an increase of $14 per student in state aid.

The proposed budget will also drop district home owners property taxes by 4 mills.

School board members will vote to approve the budget on Thursday, August 7 and it is open to the public.
