TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom leads an office of nearly 50 assistant U.S. Attorneys in offices across the sunflower state.

On Monday he told law students how that staff works to keep the public safe.

From the courtroom to the classroom U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom realizes the importance of getting out of the office.

Grissom says, "Most folks have an image of what the federal government is and you can help put a face on that image and talk about the great work the department of justice does to keep us safe. Tt's a worthwhile thing to do."

Grissom has experienced some of the worst tragedies while working for the Department of Justice, including one that changed security measures forever.

Grissom said, "After 9-11 that was the most significant change but we are vigilant in trying to protect our citizens from the acts like the one that occurred last week."

The Boston Marathon bombings came unexpectedly and without warning, killing 3 and wounding well over 150 people, Grissom says the way the suspects worked made it difficult to prevent. "The larger groups are easier to track down, its the lone wolves that account for the greatest difficulty."

Even though the students hung on every word the US Attorney spoke, Grissom says he always gets rewarded when talking to bright minds of the future.

"I get as much back as they get from me. I have confidence in the future, and leave with a great feeling. It makes for a great morning," said Grissom.
