TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- An area of U.S. 24 in Topeka that is undergoing roadwork, was closed Tuesday morning because a semi that got stuck in the mud on the shoofly detour.
The Kansas Department of Transportation reports that it closed westbound U.S. 24 at Topeka Boulevard at 7 a.m. because the vehicle was high-centered in that portion of the bridge replacement project area.
Westbound U.S. 24 traffic had to detour via Kansas Avenue north to Menninger Road, west to Rochester Road, and south back to westbound U.S. 24.
Drivers were told to expect delays during the morning commute while crews worked to clear the traffic incident.
UPDATE at 10:05 a.m.
As of 10:00 a.m., the traffic incident at Rochester Road and Menninger Road has been cleared and both roadways are now open to all traffic, KDOT reported. Westbound U.S. 24 traffic should detour via Kansas Avenue north to Menninger Road west to Rochester Road then south back to westbound U.S. 24 until further notice.
