TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Fire Department and Topeka Police Department responded to an injury auto accident at the intersection of NW Topeka Blvd. and NW Paramore St. shortly after 6:21 P.M. on Sunday, May 6, 2012. While en-route responding units were advised of a second accident near the intersection of NW Paramore and NW Tyler Streets.
Topeka Police Officers arrived on scene and found one (1) male patient lying in the north bound lanes of Topeka Blvd.
This patient had been ejected from a Jeep Cherokee that was eastbound on NW Paramore. It was later determined that this patient had been driving the Jeep.
AMR transported this patient to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of a second car, a Chrysler 300, had exited her vehicle and was found sitting on the ground near her car. She was transported by AMR crews to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Topeka Police Department was able to determine the Jeep Cherokee had first been involved in an accident near the intersection of NW Paramore and NW Tyler, where it had struck a vehicle and fled the scene eastbound on NW Paramore. The jeep then struck a second vehicle at the intersection of NW Topeka Blvd. and NW Paramore. The driver of the first vehicle struck was not injured and refused medical treatment on the scene.
The intersection of NW Topeka Blvd and NW Paramore was closed to all traffic after the accident and remained closed at the time of this release, pending further investigation by the Topeka Police Department.
